Sisterhood!

I am a recent graduate of Northeastern University.
In May 2020, I received a BA in
Communication Studies and
Media and Screen Studies
and a minor in Psychology.

Coming into college undeclared, I knew that I wanted to explore courses and fields that I hadn’t been exposed to in high school. Even though I declared my major after one semester, I was still able to take advantage of Northeastern’s phenomenal academics to discover new facets of Communication Studies. I added my Psychology minor after being exposed to B2C marketing at my first co-op and wanting to learn how to connect with people in new ways.

Some of my favorite courses included Communication and Inclusion, Film Theory, Personality Psychology, Screenwriting, and Youth and Communication Technology.

My courses gave me opportunities to creatively apply concepts to things I’m already passionate about. Some of my favorite projects included:

  • Creating a screenplay for an original 25-minute fiction short film

  • Recording and writing a 20-minute podcast episode about how social media impacts Americans’ involvement with politics

  • Writing a paper analyzing the many facets of the RuPaul’s Drag Race fandom, focusing on the inherent politics of drag, the intersection between racial identity and gender identity, and the strength of virtual culture capital in online communities like subreddits

  • Creating a 14-day-long gratitude journal, writing daily entries about things in my life for which I was grateful and concurrently tweeting corresponding messages of gratitude.

I’ve had the honor of being inducted into the Order of Omega Greek Honor Society and the Lambda Pi Eta Communication Honor Society, as well as making Dean’s List every academic semester.

On campus, I was involved with Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority. In our chapter, I held positions such as Treasurer, Honor Council Goals Coordinator, and Steering Committee Director. I also served the community alongside my sisters, working with organizations like Cradles to Crayons, March of Dimes, American Cancer Society, and WGBH.
