Camp
Live camp, love camp.
Summer camp has fully, unironically become one of the most important parts of my life. Having attended summer camp almost every year since I was 5, I quickly developed a love for meeting new friends, making friendship bracelets, and learning fun card games. I’ve been a staff member at Lakeview Day Camp since 2012. Lakeview has been one of the most challenging and most rewarding workplaces I’ve ever experienced. The camp constantly expands my comfort zone and arms me with the skills I need to be a confident, successful, experienced team member and leader in any environment. I have made some of my closest friends there. Who could have known that my extensive training in conflict resolution and team building would have its roots in the middle of the woods?
Some of my favorite skills I’ve acquired:
Learning new protocol and procedures to keep all staff and campers safe, as well as learning how to lead and adapt most activities, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic
Being trained in how to care for two young campers in my group with Type 1 Diabetes
Thinking on my feet, such as coming up with indoor activities during sudden thunderstorms
Feeding breakfast and dinner to 40 campers for two weeks straight while meeting multiple dietary restrictions
Learning how to rock a shark costume with confidence, even in the 95°F weather
